Hello, and Welcome!
The goal of this website is to preserve information and strategies about older, usually more obscure shmups. Click the links on the sidebar to read about a specific game or company! This website is a huge work in progress, and content will be added whenever I have the energy or free time.
Anything on the sidebar that isn’t a link is being planned to be added sometime in the future!
What is a shmup?
Short for “Shoot ‘em up”, the definition is somewhat loose. From wikipedia: “In a shoot 'em up, the player character moves forward automatically, often in a flying vehicle such as a spacecraft or aircraft, shooting large numbers of enemies while dodging obstacles. Some restrict the definition to games featuring spacecraft and certain types of character movement; others allow a broader definition including characters on foot and a variety of perspectives. Shoot 'em ups call for fast reactions and for the player to memorize levels and enemy attack patterns. "Bullet hell" games feature overwhelming numbers of enemy projectiles.” The most common gameplay aspect in a shmup is the fact that you can shoot. Really, the genre is so diverse that’s about as exact as the definition going to get. Many people are drawn to shmups because of their puzzle-like nature, which usually isn’t apparent on the surface.
I do not own any of the content on this website! This is a fan site solely meant for archival purposes, and I have no intention of profiting off of it.
